Product review: Zoku Ice Cream Maker

December 5th, 2016- I scream, you scream, we all scream for Zoku. Zoku has created an ice cream maker for 1!

Zoku means family in Japanese, a company known for it’s simple ideas that make making frozen sweets (i.e. ice cream and popsicles) easier and fun for the whole family.

They developed their first product- the Quick Pop Maker and from then on they have become the at-home brand for quick frozen treats.

As a mom of two young ones, I was desperate to make popsicles healthier, faster and easier. Over the summer I fell in love with the company’s Popsicle molds. My boys loved the assorted fish and aquatic shapes and fun handles to grab hold. Pretty soon I realized that one tray of six Popsicle molds wasn’t going to be enough, so I bought two more trays. My freezer was full of delicious fruity frozen treats for my kids all summer long.  From then on I’ve been interested in Zoku and their products.

As some of you know when I agree to consider a new product I test like a mom, a professional and a consumer. Plus I test the newest, hottest products available. When this Ice Cream Maker came to my door I knew it was time to get to work!

Today is Sunday, my boys are playing Rescue Bots and I am checking to see if this Ice Cream Maker is as exciting as I hope it is:

The Preparation:

  1. Rinsed the ice cream mold.
  2. Placed it in the freezer for 12 hours.
  3. Readied the chocolate ice cream ingredients from the instructions, they have recipes too!
  4. Cooled the ice cream mix for 30 minutes.
  5. Placed the frozen bowl into the plastic bowl and placed the rubber top.
  6. Added the ice cream base to the bowl.
  7. Used the spoon to stir and scrape the bowl for ten minutes.
  8. The result: soft serve ice cream.
  9. Poured the ice cream into a container and added another ½ cup of base to the bowl.
  10. Repeated steps 6 and 7.
  11. The ice cream was softer than the first batch.

Pros:

  • This product works just as it is suppose to!
  • It is easy to use.
  • Easy to clean.
  • Pieces fit together well and can be removed easily.

Cons:

  • It takes 12 hours to freeze the bowl completely and be ready for use.
  • The spoon is awkward to stir and scrape with.
  • Slightly pricey.

Overall

Despite the higher price point and the fact that it doesn’t freeze more than two bowls at a time, this is a fun product that would be great for kids and also perfect for a do-it yourself dessert at the end of a dinner party. Then after the event you could send the bowl home with each couple as a party favor!
